Join us at 7:00 pm on the second Sunday of each month at Steamer No.10 Theatre at 500 Western Avenue for a unique film experience!

Hosted by Pine Hills volunteers, our year-round series showcases rare and classic American films from the 1930s to 1960s—screened on the big screen as they were meant to be seen.

Each screening includes a brief introduction providing historical and cultural context.

Admission is free, with donations appreciated to help cover costs.

Oct 12 – Donovan’s Brain (1963) Sci-Fi, B&W, IMDB: 5.9, 84 min.
Three scientists remove the still living brain of a dead tycoon and experiment with it but the brain begins to telepathically control the lead scientist.

A hapless carnival performer masquerades as the court jester as part of a plot against an evil ruler who has overthrown the rightful King, did you get all of that?

Dec 14 – The Holly And The Ivy (1952) , B&W, IMDB: 7.6
Celia Johnson (Brief Encounter), Ralph Richardson.
A heartwarming tale of an English minister, played wonderfully by Ralph Richardson, and his family reunited at Christmas time. Their story includes a remembrance of their World War II trials.

Sweet and Innocent looking 12 year old girl turns out to be very, very bad.

Feb 8: The Fly (1958) Horror/Sci Fi, IMDB 7, 94 min.

A scientist has a horrific accident when he tries to use his newly invented teleportation device.

Mar 8: Love me or Leave Me (1955) musical drama, IMDB: 7.1, color, 122 min.
A fictionalized account of the career of jazz singer Ruth Etting and her tempestuous marriage to gangster Marty Snyder, who helped propel her to stardom. Doris Day, James Cagney.

Apr 12: It Came From Outer Space (1953) Sci Fi, IMDB: 6.5, B&W, 81 min.
A spaceship from another world crashes in the Arizona desert and only an amateur stargazer and a schoolteacher suspect alien influence when the local townsfolk begin to act strangely.

May 10: Dr. Strangelove (1964) Comedy/drama, IMDB: 8.4, B&W, 95 min.
Peter Sellers, George C. Scott, Sterling Hayden, dir. Stanley Kubrick.
An insane general triggers a path to nuclear holocaust that a war room full of politicians and generals frantically tries to stop.

Jun 14: The Country Girl (1954) Drama, IMDB: 7.3, 104 min.
A director hires an alcoholic has-been and strikes up a stormy relationship with the actor’s wife, who he believes is the cause of all the man’s problems.
Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly. Grace Kelly won an Oscar. Based on play by Clifford Odette.

July 13: Teacher’s Pet (1958) Rom/Com, B&W. 120 min. IMDB 7.1.
Clark Gable stars as a hard-nosed reporter who despises journalism schools – until he sees who’s doing the teaching. With Doris Day.

Aug 10: 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea (1954) 127 min., Color, IMDB 7.2.
Kirk Douglas, James Mason, in the superb Disney fantasy-adventure, based on the book by Jules Verne. With his power-hungry genius Captain Nemo (Mason) in his futuristic submarine Nautilus.

Sept 14: The Heiress (1949) IMDB: 8.1, B&W, 115 min, drama.
A reclusive heiress is controlled by her domineering father and feckless suitor. One of the best endings in any movie. Olivia DeHavilland, Montgomery Clift, Ralph Richardson, directed by Billy Wilder.

Oct 12: The Haunting (1963) IMDB: 7.5, 112 min, B&W, CC.
Claire Bloom, Julie Harris, dir. by Robert Wise, screenplay by Shirley Jackson, based on her novel The Haunting Of Hill House, super creepy.

Nov 9: Farewell, My Lovely (1975) Noir IMDB: 7.0, Color, 95 minutes.
Based on the Raymond Chandler novel of the same name. Los Angeles private eye Philip Marlowe is hired by paroled convict Moose Malloy to find his girlfriend Velma, former seedy nightclub dancer.

Dec 14: Holiday Inn (1942) IMDB: 7.3 B&W, musical comedy, 100 min.
At an inn which is open only on holidays, a crooner and a hoofer vie for the affections of a beautiful up-and-coming performer. One of the best with Fred Astaire, Bing Crosby and Marjorie Reynolds.

Mar 9 – The Snake Pit (1948) Drama, B&W, IMDB: 7.6, 108 min.
Virginia Cunningham (Olivia DeHavilland) can’t recall how she landed in an asylum. In flashbacks, her husband relates her developing symptoms but she remains uncured until Dr. Kik tries to solve her problems.

Apr 13 – Ninotchka (1939) Comedy, B&W, IMDB: 7.8, 110 min.
A stern Soviet functionary is sent to Paris to check on three bumbling underlings that were sent there before her. She is enchanted with Paris and Melvyn Douglas. Garbo shows wonderful gentle humor, dir. Ernst Lubitsch.

May 11 – The Mortal Storm (1940) Drama, B&W, No CC, IMDB: 7.7, 100 min.
A family leads a quiet life in a small village in Germany in the early 1930s. As the Nazis come to power, the family is divided and Martin, a family friend, goes to the dark side.
